Riggs Regains Top-35
With Michigan Top-15
BROOKLYN, MICH. – Scott Riggs drove his No. 66 Haas Automation Chevrolet to a 15th-place finish in the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway Sunday.
The finishing position vaulted the No. 66 team from 37th to 35th in the owner’s point standings, meaning Riggs will have a guaranteed starting position Saturday night at Bristol.
After rolling off the starting grid in the 10th position for the 200-lap, 400-mile event, Riggs said that his car was loose in the corners, meaning the rear of the car had no grip.
“We started off loose and got looser as the run went on,” Riggs said. “It was about a five loose (on a scale of 1-10) and I couldn’t drive aggressively.”
As a result, Riggs fell back in the field during the first half of the race, but under the guidance of crew chief Bootie Barker the team gradually made ground on the car’s handling.
Riggs was running in the 19th position, one lap down, when the caution flag came out on Lap 179 for debris on the track. Riggs was the first car a lap down and benefitting from the free pass, putting him back on the lead lap.
“The Lucky Dog pass was huge for us, because the car was finally handling good but we had passed everyone we could on our lap,” Riggs said. “By getting back on the lead lap we were able to gain a few more positions. Those were valuable points.

“This was a real big race for our team,” Riggs said. “We didn’t run very well here back in June, and we weren’t that great in Saturday’s practice sessions. But the team worked hard all day to tighten the car and we earned a nice finish.
“I think today showed what this team has been capable of all season,” Riggs said. “We had some tough breaks along the way, but this is a nice building block -- something to give the team momentum heading into the final third of the season.”
